Hybrid Event – UK Disability History and Heritage Hub – June 6, 2024

Submitted By: Alexandra F. Morris
We are hosting an event for organisations and individuals working with, or interested in, the histories of Disabled, Neurodivergent, and/or Deaf people. The goal is to build networks amongst academic and independent researchers, museum and archive professionals and volunteers, creative practitioners, and activist communities. We will be joined in Manchester by presenters from all over the UK, and have scheduled more than 20 short presentations on wide-ranging aspects of Disabled, d/Deaf, and Neurodiverse histories and heritage. The full programme for the event will be published soon, so please keep an eye out for that! This event is taking place on the 6th of June at the Manchester Deaf Centre, which is a fully wheelchair-accessible venue. We will have BSL interpretation (Russ Andrews and Alex McDonald, Manchester Deaf Centre) and Speech-to-Text-Reporting throughout the day’s presentations.

We have two spaces booked at the venue, the smaller of which will function as a Quiet Space. Please also refer to Manchester Deaf Centre’s FAQ page for more information about access: https://www.manchesterdeafcentre.com/faqs/ If you need to contact us about anything, please do so on: [email protected]. We have a small number of spaces for in-person attendance at Manchester Deaf Centre. Please do feel free choose this if you can make it to Manchester! For those who can’t make it to Manchester, there is also an online attendance option. This will be facilitated via Zoom, and will give you the chance to enjoy the presentations from wherever you are.
